Confidentiality and Data

I offer a confidential service.

Confidentiality will only be broken in exceptional circumstances. Examples of which include;

  • If there is sufficient concern to believe you may be at risk of harm to yourself or another.

  • Safeguarding concerns of harm related to children or vulnerable adults.

  • Acts of terrorism

  • Drug or people trafficking

  • Money laundering

  • If subpoenaed by a court to give evidence under oath.

Therapists are supported in their work by the guidance of a qualified clinical supervisor and a first name is used when discussing individual cases. Clinical supervisors adhere to the ethical framework of their accrediting body.

During an initial assessment a record will be taken of relevant information which will include name, address, contact number and registered General Practitioner (GP). GP details are essential in case there is an emergency.

It may be appropriate to refer you to another professional or health service. I will discuss a referral with you and you have the right to decline.

I keep brief, factual notes after each session. All information I hold related to you will be destroyed 7 years after the completion of therapy. This will be stored in a locked cabinet to which only I have access and my therapeutic executor.

In the event of serious harm and I am incapacitated, a professional executor has been nominated to have access to my client list to make contact. They are bound by the COSRT Code of Ethics.

Any information communicated by you through the online enquiry form, will be stored electronically, on Google Cloud servers (privacy policy here).

For teaching purposes cases may be amalgamated and anonymised in order to protect your confidentiality.

If you pay my fee by bank transfer, your name may appear on my bank statement.

No information is shared with third parties.

If you fall ill during a consultation, I will call the emergency services and disclose your name and any medications you take.

I will use your preferred methods of contact: e-mails, texts or phone calls. Please note that these methods are not secure, therefore I cannot guarantee complete confidentiality.

If we meet outside of the therapy room, I will not acknowledge you unless you approach me first. This is to protect your confidentiality.

I abide by the 2018 General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For more information on the Information Commissioner and GDPR, please visit ICO: A8495871
